Collaborative robot used in laser carving station of mobile phone case


A 3C electronic ODM manufacturer in Jiaxing put forward the demand, which is to apply collaborative robots to existing production lines to improve production efficiency. Different from the automotive industry, compared to “safety of robots”, users of 3C electronics companies place a bigger emphasis on “tempo” and “accuracy”, and believe that these are the key reasons to implement robots.。

The client’s production line has a relatively low automation rate, is labor-intensive, has many types of foundry products, and has a short product life cycle. The client urgently hopes to reduce staffing and increase efficiency through automation. In the end, they chose the process of shell laser carving and replace humans with robots.

02Pain points

Each person is responsible for loading and unloading the laser engraving machine. As a result, dozens of laser engraving equipment have completely packed the factory. Workers’ tasks are repetative and the laser engraving machines give off a strong smell. The laser engraving equipments also use different communication interfaces due to iteration and different manufacturers. How to deploy a robot in a compact space to replace human workers, and at the same time take into account the supply and discharge of materials at different stations? Industrial robots with added fences are almost impossible to achieve the task in the same space. In addition, the regular maintenance of laser carving and other equipments also requires sufficient space. Therefore, the traditional industrial robot is obviously not suitable for this station, and lightweight collaborative robots are undoubtedly a better option.
