On November 7, 2017, the 19th China International Industry Fair with the theme of “Innovation, Intelligence, and Green” was held at the National Convention and Exhibition Center (Shanghai). In this exhibition that showcases the strength of the national industry, Chinese robots are undoubtedly an essential part to display. Among the robots, ELITE’s seven-axis collaborative robot EC75 and artificial intelligence demonstration system attracted many domestic and foreign industry experts’ attention. Even at the beginning of the exhibition, there were already numerous media reports on ELITE robots.
EC75 is a redundant collaborative robot with a delicate look and 7 joints. The 7 joint degrees of freedom are used to control the 6 pose variables at the end, so that it has a unique “zero space”, which can make one end pose correspond to infinitely many sets of solutions in joint space, and thus improving the flexibility of the operation. Compared to the traditional 6-degree-of-freedom robot, the new robot can also make full use of its remaining degrees of freedom to avoid space obstacles, singular structures, and joint angular position limits, all while optimizing joint torques and achieving end pose control.
In addition to the characteristics of redundant robots, the EC75 also supports free drive teach functions based on the robot’s dynamic model identification. Free drive teaching is a simple, efficient and human-friendly robot teaching method. The user can simply drag the robotic arm to the teaching point, and the teaching point or the continuous teaching track can be reproduced with just one click, which greatly improves the teaching programming efficiency and reduces the operation threshold of the collaborative robot.
In order to extend the application range of collaborative robots, a futuristic concept of “AI+ collaborative robots” was introduced during the fair. Through the embedding of artificial intelligence technology, human-machine cooperation and human-machine collaboration are truly realized. ELITE demonstrated the latest research results in this — random mixed object grabbing system and robot stacking clothes system.
In the random mixed object grabbing system, the latest deep neural network technology is applied, and basing on the self-developed object recognition and grasping pose prediction algorithms, the robot is guided to achieve accurate grabbing of random objects without having to obtain any object model data in advance. Through the fusion of 2D and 3D image data, the system reduces the accuracy requirements of the deep vision sensor, improves the success rate of capture, enhances the versatility of the capture system, and supports the capture of mixed objects. The system can be widely used in 3C, logistics, retail, catering, and other industries to provide a solid foundation for grabbing applications for service industry robots and “smart workers” in industrial environment.
In the robot stacking clothes system, it uses the deep reinforcement learning algorithm and deep vision sensor to accurately locate the clothing stacking point, and automatically optimizes the best motion trajectory to achieve the stacking effect. The system also uses rapid simulation modeling and transfer learning methods to speed up the learning speed and reduce the cost of data acquisition, and finally map the simulation results to the actual robot operations.
During this fair, our products attracted the attention of more than a dozen mainstream media and industry media including Tencent, Netease, Yidian, Sina, Sohu, Toutiao and so on. The report of the Nineteenth National Congress of the CPC expressed that it is necessary to highlight key common technologies, cutting-edge leading technologies, modern engineering technologies, and disruptive technological innovations. These four types of technological innovations are the fundamental support for China’s construction of a modern economic system. They are highly compatible with the pattern of contemporary scientific and technological development, and fully reflect the current needs of modernization. The power of science and technology has become the buzzword of the time, and national leaders have expressed the importance of power of science and technology on many occasions.
The five-day 19th China International Industry Fair has come to an end. For both ELITE and the audience, five days may not be enough to fully appreciate this industrial event. But we can say with confidence that every day spent was full of rewards and knowledge. At the same time, we also hope that our efforts can contribute to the future of China’s collaborative robots and artificial intelligence. The robots of the future should not only be clumsy machines that can repeat actions, but also become intelligent helpers available to everyone and everywhere, and can be used for a wide range of users in the service industry and households to create real, rapid and significant value, and a better life for humanity as a whole.
